ISSUE # 9 EUROPE'S TIMES AND UNKNOWN WATERS - “TOOLS, MACHINES AND TECHNOLOGIES”, JULY 2013
The 9th issue of our journal wishes to address the issue of science, technology, craft and personal skill - from a Postmodern philosophical and literary perspective. Our aim in this issue is to investigate the multiplicity of changes that science, technology, craft and personal skill have brought in our psychological and social qualities, or, the ways in which they affected the consciousness of the epoch. We are looking forward for papers capable to outline (in provoking inter- and trans-disciplinary discussions) the positive potentials as well as the dangerous sides of cloning, biotech (medical robots and other devices), environmental technoethics, military technology, nanotechnology, surveillance and security systems, processing systems of all kind, artificial intelligence, body implants, neural interfaces, extended memory types.
Nevertheless, discussion on topics such as new media vs old media; history of inventions; computer games; the technical conceptions of reality; cognitive dimensions; technology transfer; development policies, theories, and methodologies; analysis of technological ambiguities; tensions, continuities and ruptures between Nature and Artificiality - are especially encouraged, as we wish to support reflections on engineering; to see how technological systems have enlarged the domain of human cognition and aesthetic sensibilities (how they stimulate ideas but also how they encouraged utopias and policymaking); to build common corridors for philosophers, literary critiques and engineers.
We encourage innovative and experimental work, however, articles will be selected depending on subject relevance, originality, scientific merit and on the quality of their cross-cultural interpretational potential.
DEADLINE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: 15 OF JULY 2013.
